 📍 Introduction 

Muzaffarabad is the vibrant capital of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, nestled at the confluence of the stunning Neelam and Jhelum Rivers. Perched at around 737 meters above sea level, this city offers a mesmerizing blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. With a population of about 150,000 (2017 census), it is often called the gateway to the Kashmir Valley.

🏰 Historical Highlights Founded: Around 1646 by Sultan Muzaffar Khan (chief of the Bemba tribe). Red Fort (Chak Fort): Construction began in 1559 under the Chak rulers; completed in 1646.

Strategically located by the Neelum River. Served as a military post until 1926 and partly restored after the 2005 .

A breathtaking valley about 105 km from Muzaffarabad,

Especially stunning in summer when everything turns emerald green, and equally magical in winter under a blanket of snow.

– A serene lake formed along the Jhelum River.

Dhani Waterfall | – The tallest waterfall in the Neelum Valley, spectacular during monsoon season.

    Festivals: Religious gatherings like the Urs of Pir Shah Ghazi; vibrant Eid celebrations.

  • Handicrafts: Intricate wood carving, handmade Kashmiri shawls, carpets, and papier-mâché items reflect local artistry.

  • By road: About 140 km from Islamabad via Murree and Kohala – roughly a 4–5 hour scenic drive. By air: Muzaffarabad has a small domestic airport, but flights are infrequent.
